Following discussions with Edinburgh Leisure over recent weeks, pleased to announce a significant increase in community access to the swimming pool at QHS from August. I wish to inform you of upcoming amendments to the swimming pool programme at Queensferry High School to increase the public sessions available to the local community. This follows discussions with QDCC around the limited public access for customers at Queensferry H.S for community use and feedback of which he had received.

The current allocation of 11.75 hours of public swimming has been raised as a concern and as insufficient for the community. Edinburgh Leisure have subsequently reviewed the pool programme with a view to increasing this provision. At the same time, we have sought to minimise impact to other user groups and maintain best overall use of the facility.

We have now scheduled a revised pool programme which will provide 25.25 hours of public swimming plus 8.25 hours for community lessons which and caters for 309 participants per week, including specific lessons for customers with Additional Support Needs. A total amount of 33.5 hours per week will therefore become available for community use out of a possible 40-hour allocation. This will provide public swimming access 6 days across the week, as laid out in the revised timetable below:

In accommodating these changes, we have aimed to limit impact on existing user groups – specifically private aquatic providers – who have existing bookings in place running until the end of July 2022. Our objective has been to avoid displacing any user groups, and while this has been achieved, some user groups will have their lane allocation reduced from the new booking period commencing August 2022.

Due to the pre-existing agreements/bookings which we currently have in place with our private providers, the above-referenced changes will take affect from the period of August 2022.
