From The Spaces for People Team…
Thank you for your comments regarding the proposed emergency road measures for South Queensferry High Street, which was initially distributed for notification and comments on 23rd July. Many comments were received and these have been reviewed and a summary of comments is included in the attached assessment feedback form to the Council Incident Management Team (CIMT). On the basis of the comments received the scheme has been redesigned from the one which was notified, to take into consideration many of the concerns raised; further engagement with the local community has also been undertaken and has shaped the revised design which is attached. Following consideration by the CIMT on 11 September July 2020 the redesigned proposals have been approved for implementation. We sincerely apologise for the delay in providing the outcome of this proposal until now.
Officers will be monitoring all the temporary measures once they are implemented and will make any further adjustments as necessary to mitigate unforeseen impacts.
We expect that these measures will be implemented within the next 2-3 weeks, provided that the required resource to carry out the work can be secured.
Further information about how the Council is implementing temporary road measures to support safe walking, wheeling and cycling is available at www.edinburgh.gov.uk/spacesforpeople
Assessment comments on the original rejected plan can be read here
This is completely unacceptable – why are you diverting traffic along Station Road, which is full of pedestrians and cyclists, including children cycling to school and is the entrance to 3 schools and Dalmeny station? The planned diversion will not encourage health or wellbeing as it will discourage children from cycling to school.
Such a shame that this isn’t a full closure. Speeds on the one way system will be higher making it more dangerous for people.
Why have the concerns of the residents at Dalmeny Station who’ve to contend with the narrowest stretch of station road not been given more consideration? It all seems to be what the local community council want for the businesses on the high street and to bad on everyone not within the confines of queensferry. There have been no replies from the council that Iam aware re the concerns of safety of pupils from the three schools or residents of Dalmeny station. We are still waking for dates for safety measures to be implemented prior to any work on the high street commencing. Is this just another empty promise from ecc. Also we find that the resurfacing of station road has been put back yet again. Will this trial period cause further delays to the resurfacing?
Every consideration has been given by QDCC to all feedback including from DSR, John. The submitted comments from residents, QDCC, Ward councillors, Police Scotland, Spokes and Edinburgh Access Panel with CEC’s responses can be viewed in the link at the bottom of the bulletin. The original plan from SfP sent all traffic to alternative routes such as Station Rd.
There are many differing views and challenges in each solution. However, the most popular are being trialled, as the least popular by far is the status quo. Thank you for the feedback.

I agree with John and Sam. The views of those living on Station road have been totally ignored. This better only be temporary.
A missed opportunity to make the space much more people friendly. A one way system will just allow higher vehicle speed. The whole point is to provide space for people to distance and this doesn’t achieve that. The space should be allowed to be used by business for additional seating and trading while allowing space for people to enjoy rather than dodging vehicles or one another
The proposal allows widened pavements in key areas and a two way cycle lane. Although there is strong support for one way and indeed for pedestrianisation, there are also concerns over the impact on alternative routes, as you can see from other comments here.
This proposal allows a live trial of how traffic will change and to trial mitigation prior to decisions on permanent change of any nature.
